COMPANION FINALIZES AGREEMENT WITH EISENBERG AND BERKOWITZ TO INTEGRATE THE BIG6 RESEARCH MODEL INTO ALEXANDRIA
An agreement was finalized between COMPanion Corporation and the founders
of the Big6tm , Mike Eisenberg and Bob Berkowitz, to integrate the Big6
information literacy skills model into the Alexandriatm library automation
system.
The agreement gives Alexandria exclusive rights to using the Big6 model in
a library automation system. The Big6-Alexandria integration will give
students the option to select a help icon that gives immediate assistance
on research steps, while using the Alexandria OPAC. The Big6 help option
will include linked instructional multimedia video clips of Mike Eisenberg
to give students a better understanding of the research process.
The agreement is one of several alliances COMPanion is currently forming to
enhance the Alexandria product. The company plans to partner with
organizations that help their users to use technology to better
provide educational information.
“It is important our users and the industry understand COMPanion,s market
strength, stability and growth over the last four years. The library
technology industry has recently experienced serious insecurity. Our
partnership with Mike Eisenberg and The Big6 is just one of many alliances
and product enhancements we plan to make in order to continue Alexandria,s
reputation for offering strong automation products,” said Patrick Hansen,
Vice President, COMPanion Corporation.
COMPanion Corporation will incorporate the integrated Alexandria-Big6
interactive research model into the next major release of Alexandria, due
Spring 2000.
