Author Guidelines: How to Submit Your Content to Big6.com
The Big6.com website contains articles and lesson ideas about how to implement the Big6 approach to information problem-solving. Our site also contains general content related to information literacy and information and technology skills instruction. The Big6™ helps education professionals integrate a framework, process, and approach to merge information technology and information skills directly into every student’s learning.
Submissions
We will consider solicited and unsolicited manuscripts for publication. It is not necessary to submit letters of inquiry or preliminary outlines.
Manuscript Guidelines
In all articles and other submissions, place emphasis on the your actual experiences or personal observation. Submit manuscripts in Microsoft Word and attach your document to an e-mail message.
We encourage you to submit photos, illustrations, charts, worksheets and diagrams with articles. If you provide photos, please obtain written permission from each person pictured in the photos. If you have commissioned artwork, photographs, charts or maps, you must obtain a written release (a “work made for hire” form) from the person employed, and include copies of the release with the manuscript. We will edit manuscripts for length, clarity, and conciseness.
Please include your name, postal address, e-mail address, phone and fax number, and biographical information with each article you submit.
Audience
The majority of Big6.com readers are K-12 library media specialists, teachers, and technology teachers.
Writing Style
Write articles in a clear, conversational style.
Style Guides: Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), and The Chicago Manual of Style. We do not include footnotes and endnotes in our articles. If the footnote information is important, include its content in the text. Place publication data about books and articles quoted within parentheses. Please give full title, publisher, and year of publication.
Types of Manuscripts
* Feature articles. Feature articles vary in length, depending on the topic. An average length is 3-5 double spaced typewritten pages. Feature articles may deal with theme topics of other subjects of interest to school librarians.
* Essays & Opinion Pieces. Opinions on controversial issues, personal viewpoints, literary puzzles, and humor are considered for Big6.com. (300-800 words)
* Tips. Tips are regular columns of brief how-to-hints that vary in length from a few sentences to several paragraphs. The emphasis should be on what you did to teach a specific Big6 skill.
* Columns. Columns are assigned to writers. If you are interested in becoming a columnist, please submit a resume and a sample of your writing to the editors.
Terms
Manuscripts are considered with the understanding that Big6 will always give you proper credit for your work. You will retain the copyright for anything you write. Other conditions include the following:
* requires assignment to Eisenberg & Berkowitz for all rights in the accepted work;
* requires that it is your original work and not previously published (if permission for reprinting has been secured from the original publisher, please let us know), does not infringe any copyright or other right, and does not contain any matter that is libelous or otherwise unlawful, and,
* reserves the right to edit accepted works to conform to house style and space limitations.
Compensation
If we select your article for publication, we’ll pay you a small honorarium, acceptance of which indicates your acceptance of the above terms of submission.
