Barbara Jansen

Barbara is the Librarian and Technology Coordinator (and Assistant Cross Country and Conditioning coach) at St. Andrew''s Episcopal High School in southwest Austin, TX. This is her fourteenth year as a librarian. She spent ten years as a librarian in Round Rock, TX. She also serves as part-time faculty at the University of Texas at Austin Graduate School of Library and Information Science. Her latest course is "Electronic Resources for Children and Young Adults." She is an official consultant with the Big6� Associates. Before becoming a librarian, she taught at Berkman Elementary in Round Rock, TX. She has been an educational professional for twenty years. Barbara specializes in integrating information problem-solving skills, content area curriculum, and technology. She teaches educators how to use and implement the available technology into their educational settings. She has presented numerous computer workshops and technology and information-related seminars at regional, state, and international conferences. She has had articles published in School Library Media Activities Monthly and Multimedia Schools magazines and the Big6 Newsletter formerly published by Linworth Publishing. She served as Publication Editor for Texas Computer Education Association. Barbara holds B.S., M.Ed., and M.L.I.S. degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. She is active in the Texas Library Association and the Texas Association of School Librarians and is a member of ALA and AASL. She is in the Longhorn Alumni Band and enjoys cycling, running, and her family, including her schnauzer, Frankie. Barbara is committed to collaborating with teachers to fully integrate information problem-solving, content objectives, and technology into the curriculum. In 1994 she studied the Big6� model of information problem-solving at Syracuse University with Big6� co-authors Mike Eisenberg and Bob Berkowitz, and is a co-founder, with Mike and Bob, of Big6� listserv. They recently published a new book titled Teaching Information & Technology Skills: The Big6 in elementary schools available through Linworth Publishing (www.linworth.com). Barbara is often asked to share her ideas at conferences and professional educational training seminars for state conferences, regional service centers, and local school districts and campuses.
